Understanding the heart - Suffering

Suffering

If there is
no suffering
Maybe happiness By dreaming every day
I find awakening.

No matter how talented we are, no matter how well prepared we are, unsatisfactory things happen naturally.

It is often said that poverty is misery, poverty, but few say rich. In fact, the poor have the suffering of the poor and the rich also have the suffering of the rich. Poor people do not accept poverty, hate poverty, want to be rich, so they suffer. And rich people are afraid that the amount of wealth is not enough to make others respect, afraid of going bankrupt, afraid of being used or harmed by bad people, so they suffer. In comparison, the suffering of the rich is more complex and difficult than that of the poor. If only in society everyone is the same, everyone owns the same property, surely the concept of rich and poor will not exist. But that was never the case when people increasingly favored material things and saw it as the basic condition of happiness. Therefore, if we are fortunate not to get carried away by society's conception and to get rid of the idea of wealth and poverty, we see that material enjoyment is not the biggest reason for us to be in this world, then surely we will no longer complain of poverty.

People also often lump polarity with suffering and suffering. But the toil itself is not necessarily suffering. It's only because we resist it that we want to not have to struggle and still have all the comforts like everyone else that we suffer. We only know how to compare, demand, not understand the root cause of why we are destitute. As we have witnessed, there are people who only need their loved one to survive a serious illness, even if they can no longer work, they are still happy to take all their lives for protection. There are rescuers, they know that rushing into the fire, going underground, or passing by the arrow line will be very dangerous to life. But out of love they don't see it as suffering. Some people think that the extremity of the mind is miserable, because it takes enough thinking to shoulder the work. But in times of economic downturn and having work to do, to think about, is a happy thing. Therefore, whether the pole becomes suffering or not depends on the attitude of each person.

What we most often lament to each other is suffering, as long as suffering is suffering, as an unchangeable truth. For example, someone slapping us in the face can hurt us a lot. But if we know we're deeply guilty of that person and are willing to take it, that slap won't hurt us. Here, with a contemptuous attitude, they "give" a slap to insult me in front of everyone, I am miserable. Business failure causes money to be lost without pain, because it is the sweat and tears that we have worked hard to build up for many years. But from pain to suffering there is still a long way to go, if we know the cause of failure and accept that failure as a lesson learned. And perhaps, the most unifying pain of human life is separation, so it is often likened to the gut cut in half. But if we are aware that dissolution is caused by causes and conditions, maybe separation is an opportunity for both parties to look at ourselves to create a new and better predestined condition in the future, then we will no longer see it as suffering. Indeed, pain and suffering are two very different emotions.

Life always has things that are consistent with our will but contradict other people's thoughts, or satisfy other people's needs but are contrary to our interests. Even for ourselves, there are times when "sunshine and afternoon rain" that we ourselves do not understand, how can circumstances please us forever. There are things I used to hate bitterly but now love very much; There are things I used to be so passionate about but now I don't want to look at; There are issues we used to look down on but now feel too serious. Assuming all our desires are fulfilled, ask what we will become and what will this life be like? Yet we only know how to demand, not judge whether it is really right and suitable for our abilities and current circumstances. Obviously, our suffering is not really someone else's. Therefore, most of the suffering that we often complain about is just unsatisfactory.

So instead of saying, "I'm miserable!" we should say, "It's so unsatisfactory to me!" This is more accurate. It touches our consciousness and helps us look back at our habits or reactions, instead of chasing others to blame or punish. From there, we will realize that the concept of "life is suffering" is only due to the way of thinking, or just prejudice.

Let us never forget that we are not an isolated individual. We must always be subject to the interaction of many resources around us, from friends and family, to society and the vast universe. No matter how talented we are, no matter how well prepared we are, unsatisfactory things happen naturally. If there is a city, there must be a defeat, if there is a suit, there must be a dissolution. Why do we only want to succeed and merge, and fail and melt to whom? When we're lucky, we don't ask ourselves if we really deserve these achievements and whether we should embrace them. Yet whenever we encounter bad luck, we cry loudly, demanding justice. We have enjoyed too much from the gifts of the universe and have long been taken back by the universe to share with others, thinking that is also natural, but nothing is lost!

For losses that are so great, of course it takes time to fully accept, so it is only natural to react. But there are things that are so ordinary, if not so trivial, that we also complain about, it's our fault. Like the rain is also miserable, traffic jams are also miserable, errors are also miserable, food that does not fit the mouth is also miserable, the height is not satisfactory is also miserable, the old age is also miserable, no one asks also suffers, many loved ones also suffer Are these sufferings due to circumstances or because our greed is too great? Take a look at it calmly! No one can make us miserable if we have the right understanding and sufficient acceptance. In order to have broad acceptance, we need to narrow down our unnecessary needs. Even with things that are supposed to be justified, if we feel that without it we can still live firmly and happily, we should try to deny it so that our minds are less dependent on circumstances. As a result, when circumstances fluctuate, we remain peacefully immobile.

In addition, we should also train ourselves how to face difficulties, or create for ourselves a way of thinking, a way of living, not too much for safety, so that our endurance can grow. We see children growing up in over-protected environments where they come into life without any experience to cope with adversity, so it only takes a small impact like being criticized to make them easily waver and want to give up right away. Like plants growing on loose soil, they look green, but it only takes a strong wind to pass by to break. As for the plants growing on mountain rocks, although the shape is assertive, the grip is very stable. So, we can't pray that life doesn't push us into grim situations, but we can keep ourselves from succumbing to life's turbulence with the steadfastness of our hearts.

In order to have that heart, we must know how to put ourselves within the framework of formation, not coercion. That means we have to both limit our enjoyment and practice confronting adversity. Let us not rush to complain: what is the point of living without enjoyment? No one forbids me to enjoy it. But everything has a price. If we keep feeding our weak egos forever, don't ask why our lives are suffering. Of course, for a person who has a solid heart, how much fame does not matter. They have the courage to rise above fame, or use it in a useful way for life. However, the actual number of people who want to let go of the habit of enjoyment is very rare, and the number of people who do it is even rarer. Especially in the current situation, people dare to tear down the moral stronghold to fight for rights, regardless of all the consequences. Perhaps that's why life is getting more and more miserable. It has become an endless human song.

Yes, suffering is an indisputable reality, but that is only due to the level at which people feel. Suffering is not inherently the destined nature of this life. After all, nothing is suffering. Because our mental machinery is malfunctioning, it produces reactions against circumstances it perceives as opposite. Thankfully, the mental machine is a flexible composite, so it can be adjusted. As long as we have the right awareness, all emotions in us are constantly interacting with everything, so that the psyche does not continue to produce selfish reactions. At the same time, we need to have a keen sense of the habits we've built up in the past. The process of dismantling these negative mentalities is the process of overcoming suffering. In general, the less narcissistic is the less suffering. The end of ego is the end of suffering.

In fact, we need to be grateful for suffering. Suffering both helps us become aware of what is happy and strengthens our tolerance, so that we can unleash our hidden survival instincts. Just as if we don't get lost, it's hard to know we're scared; If we're not offended, it's hard to know the extent of our anger; If we are not deceived, it is difficult for us to know that we are also vulnerable; If we're not abandoned, it's hard to see our weakness and dependence. It is through the manifest survival instinct that we clearly see every deep nook and cranny of disturbing emotions that create suffering. From there, we know how to adjust our minds and lifestyles so that they are in harmony with the workings of the universe. As a result, understanding and love in us blossom. We can walk through the ups and downs of this life freely without fear of unexpected adversity.

It can be said that whatever our mind is, we will feel suffering like that. Because suffering is born from the mind, but also from the mind to destroy.
