DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO GROW
1. Prepare planting tools, soil, and seeds
You can take advantage of available tools such as a tray, a pot or a foam bin, or bare soil.
Note: foam boxes and jars should be perforated for plants to drain.
Land for planting
Choy Sum grows on a variety of soils as long as irrigation is favorable. You can pre-buy or mix the soil with rice husks, coco coir, cow dung, chicken manure, bird manure, goose duck, ...
2. Soak incubation
Because the Choy Sum’s husk is quite hard, it is often necessary to soak in water to help the peels crack and quickly germinate. It is best to soak the seeds from 4 to 6 hours in warm water (2 boiling three cold)
After soaking, you wash the seeds and let them dry in the basket for 8 hours, put the basket in a calm and dark place. During the drying process, you should stir the seeds to dry them evenly. After eight hours, your roots will crack, with white fangs, you can sow seeds.
3. Sowing seeds and care
First, you should pay attention to the thickness (10cm) of the nutrient substrate because the Choy Sum is also quite large; if the substrate is too thin, the plant cannot stick to the substrate, reducing the ability of the roots to absorb water and minerals matter.
Sow seeds 0.5cm below the soil layer. After sowing, cover the roots with such soil to protect them from wind spreading and prevent your seeds from becoming a delicious "prey" of harmful organisms. You can sow seeds in a field, dig holes 5cm apart so that when your plants grow, they can grow comfortably. For each spot you add 2-3 seeds. Then use a plastic spray to water the mist to moisten and soften the soil. You should use a cover sheet, but be careful to leave a small space for air circulation to avoid mold growth that harms the plant.
Choy Sum is a short-term plant, very "watery,” so when growing this clean vegetable at home, you need to keep it moist regularly. Ideally, after planting, you should water your plant regularly, once or twice a day. Or more if the topsoil is dry.
After the Choy Sum leaves, the addition of fish protein will help provide nutrition for the fast-growing Choy Sum while increasing the plant’s resistance. Apply fertilizer two times/week, so spray evenly on both leaves and vegetables. Also, the Choy Sum at this stage requires water, so you have to water the plants twice a day. Besides, you can combine foliar fertilization once a week to add other micronutrients for good growing vegetables; note that you should fertilize in the chilly afternoon when the sun is off; 5-6 pm is best.
If your Choy Sum is pests, fake garlic,, or chili, take the water mixed with rice water and spray on vegetables to prevent it. Should spray at night when it is cool; this is the time when deep, healthy activity will achieve the best results.
After 30-35 days, you can harvest. You can reap continuously for 1-2 months if you keep picking large leaves, leaving the buds to continue growing. You should note this! After each leaf harvest, you immediately add protein to the recovery plant.
